Join us for Simon Fraser University’s Science Rendezvous and International Astronomy Day 2018. An exciting day full of interesting things to see and do, artistic performances and educational demonstrations and explorations at SFU’s Burnaby Mountain campus on Saturday, May 12, 2018, from 11:00AM – 3:00PM at the South and East hallways of the Academic Quadrangle of SFU’s Burnaby campus, rain or shine. We’re opening our doors to showcase the spirit and essence of Simon Fraser University. The 2018 event will feature STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and our displays and activities will be better than ever! Participants can explore dozens of hands-on science activities and demonstrations that will delight all ages, including:
  • Glow in the Dark Chemistry Magic Show at 12PM and 2PM
  • Super Science Game Show presented by Let’s Talk Science
  • 3D printed models of animal bones, geometrical structures, and DNA strands
  • Learn about sound by manipulating music tracks with the interactive app, Tune Twister, by WWest
  • Hands-on science activities & magic card tricks
  • Educational science shows and space exploration demonstrations presented by Vancouver Royal Astronomical Society of Canada
  • Tour of the Trottier Observatory & Science Courtyard with a display of astro images
  • Film cannister painting by Science Alive
  • Amazing Science Chase
  • Experience a live touch pool of invertebrates
  • Make your own ice cream using liquid nitrogen
  • Create magical shapes using bubbles and straws
  • Solve math puzzles with cards and games
  • Build your own cell models and learn more about what goes on inside your cells
  • Discover how we determine our blood type
  • Indulge in all sorts of interactive physics and chemistry activities
  • Find more about simple probabilities and how we apply these in everyday life
  • Enjoy some film cannister painting
  • Peek through our astronomy telescope and do some solar viewing
  • Participate in some of our plant chemistry experiments and learn more about photosynthesis
  • Be a sound engineer and play with our tune twister software
  • Learn more about robotics
  • Find out how you can help solve the water pollution problem
Science Rendezvous is the largest science festival in Canada that seeks to engage the public (and especially kids!) through interactive science activities, demonstrations, and laboratory experiences at various locations across Canada every year on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. The 2018 event takes place on Saturday, May 12th in conjunction with International Astronomy Day.
